Tinny Of Soon To Be Deported Blokes Arriving In WA Eclipses Housing Crisis, Climate Change, Buckling Health System And Cost Of Living Pressures As The Most Pressing Issue On National Agenda

WENDELL HUSSEY  |  Cadet  | CONTACT After a tumultuous few years, the political landscape might just be returning to normal this week. Following a glut of stories about a variety of issues directly impacting everyday Australians, a semblance of normality returned to the news cycle on Friday afternoon. That came in the form of a tinny pulling up on the shores of northern Western Australia. A tinny filled with brown people. A tinny filled with brown people who want to come to Australia, take our jobs, and ruin our already eroding way of life. A tinny that is the first in an armada of boats set to wash ashore. A tinny that symbolises the beginning of an invasion, because the current Labor Government is weak on boats. Or that’s what the Murdoch Media and Liberal-National Coalition are saying anyway. Because, despite the fact people can’t find a place to pay someone else’s mortgage as a result of the commodification of the basic human right that is having a home, or that groceries and bills are soaring through the roof because of unregulated multinational companies taking advantage of the free market, or that ordinary Australians are putting off going to the doctor because they can’t get into one that bulk bills, or that people with mental health issues are ending up on the streets or worse – a boat load of refugees is now going to be the focal point of our media and political classes. Although the 30-40 men from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan will either be deported or subject to life in one of our offshore prison camps – Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says that Labor has lost control of our borders. “Ignore the fact that Labor have a record of being just as cruel as us when it comes to refugees,” said Peter Dutton. “And ignore the fact that John Howard astronomically increased the numbers of temporary visas (aka underpaid and easily manipulated workers who undercut Australia’s own working class) during his stopping the boats era.” “Just think. Liberals tough on borders. Liberals protect your way of life.” “It’s as easy as that.”
